There are times when we stop and take a look around us and try to improve our lives in someway; whether it be from a physical aspect — losing weight, new clothes, different hairstyle — , learning a new skill be it for work or hobby, or making a change at home to make life better.
My mission encompasses a bit of each category mentioned above, but the top item on my list is decluttering my space. I have WAY too much stuff!! I started in my closet by removing clothes that can no longer fit and are still in great condition to donate (i need to decide if it should go to the Salvation Army. My preference is to give it to an institution who gives these items to people who are in need and cannot afford to purchase it; not to a place that will put them up for sale. I also gathered 4 bags of books - from novels to old text books - and instead of running around to different libraries to try to get rid of them I learnt about Better World Books (who it turns out the library sometimes donates books to) and went to one of their bins and unloaded my load. Still need to go thru the ones I held back to see if any are left that can go too. I like their ‘cause so I didn’t mind giving them my books. Check them out if you too have a lot of books you would like to clear from your space and aren’t sure what to do with. Please don’t toss them in the recycle bin.
My other mission is to learn new coding skills to make myself more marketable. After all this field I’m in is extremely competitive! And last, but not least, I try to get in some exercise every now and again. I used to go to the community center 2 or 3 times a week, but had to take a mini break and hope to be back to it next week since it didn’t work out that I go this week. And let’s not forget making time for family. I am currently in between projects and thankfully not bouncing off the walls ‘yet’, which affords me the time to be able to accomplish my undertakings.

So I’ve always thought that should the time come for me to start a family, —because of the nature of my job — I would opt to work from home and care for my little ones. Yeah, that’s not likely to happen the way I pictured it would. Let’s just say I got a rather RUDE awakening!
For the past month I’ve been assisting caring for my now 3 month old niece during the days since I have the luxury of down time… well it was down time until this kid took over. Clearly taking care of a child is a FULL TIME JOB and there is nothing getting done while this little bundle of joy is awake; hence I have accomplished none of my coding goals. NONE, zilch, nada. It’s been wonderful watching her grow over these past few weeks and that can be traded for nothing else in this world. It’s also served as an eye opener and life lesson to cross that off my list - unless I get some one to help which will enable me to focus and get work done OR wait until they are older that is.
Once my time is officially mine again I can dive into the process completely. There are a list of things I need to focus on learning: Angular, NodeJS, MongoDB and get familiar with Grunt, Bower… This effort has been started already as I’ve remotely set up Grunt, Bower and Bootstrap to get a move on it. So far so good, but still a lot of learning to do.
